What you need before you start

You need an active Nigerian phone number, an 8–10 character password, your date of birth and territory (state), and your legal name matching your bank account for later verification. You must be 18+, a Nigerian resident, and not already have a Betway account.

Betway allows one account per person, and duplicates are flagged by phone number, device and personal details, so recover an existing account with Forgot Password rather than opening a second one. The name and date of birth you use must match your bank account and your ID, so use your real legal details. Have a valid government ID ready now — you'll need it for the KYC check before your first withdrawal.

Betway registration: step by step

Betway uses a single short sign-up form: your phone number, an 8–10 character password and its confirmation, your date of birth and territory, plus the 18+ and terms box. Verification is then a one-time code entered on a timed OTP screen. The full written procedure and our own screenshots are below.

There is no long questionnaire and no document upload at this stage — identity verification (KYC) comes later, before your first cashout. The ₦1000 Free Bet coupon is displayed inside the form on our 1 July 2026 sign-up; treat it as what the screen showed on the day, not a guaranteed offer, and always check the current terms on Betway's site before relying on it.

The OTP screen: a timed code

Betway verifies your number with a one-time code entered on a screen that counts down — the timer read "OTP valid until 03:56" on our 1 July 2026 sign-up, roughly four minutes. If the code doesn't arrive before it expires, you tap "Try Again" to resend, then continue to your new account.

This is the exact screen we captured on 1 July 2026, shown in the screenshots below. To receive the code in time, make sure you have signal and turn Do Not Disturb off — on Nigerian networks you can text 'Allow' to 2442 to switch DND off fully, or '12' to 2442 to turn it off partially. If the timer runs out before the code lands, "Try Again" issues a fresh one.

Betway account verification (KYC)

You can register in a couple of minutes, but Betway requires identity verification (KYC) before your first withdrawal — a government-issued ID whose name matches the details on your account. Signing up is quick; getting paid depends on passing this check, so it pays to prepare your document early.

Betway accepts a government-issued ID such as an international passport, a driver's licence, a voter's card, or a National ID/NIN. The name and date of birth on the document must match what you entered at sign-up and the name on your bank account — a mismatch is the usual reason a payout or feature stays blocked. Uploading your ID early, rather than at the moment you want to cash out, avoids that delay. We have not independently timed how long Betway's verification review takes, so we don't quote a duration here.

Funding your account

After registering and verifying your account, you make a deposit to start betting. Betway supports the Nigerian payment options bettors expect, including OPay, PalmPay, Paystack, Flutterwave, Quickteller and bank transfer, with a ₦100 minimum deposit. Which one you pick mainly affects how fast the money lands.

OPay and PalmPay are typically the quickest routes for both deposits and withdrawals — our payment-methods guides cover how each one works step by step rather than repeating them here. Betway's fastest OPay payout in our own test landed in under a minute, which we cover in the Betway review.

Common Betway registration problems

The two most common issues are a phone number already linked to an existing account and the one-time code not arriving before the timer expires. Both are quick to resolve — the first with Forgot Password, the second with "Try Again" once you've checked your signal and Do Not Disturb settings.

If your number is already in use, you likely have an account already — use Forgot Password to recover it rather than registering again, since Betway allows only one account per person. If the OTP doesn't arrive in time, tap "Try Again", confirm you typed the +234 number correctly, and turn Do Not Disturb off so the code can reach you. If features stay locked after you sign up, your KYC isn't complete — upload your ID to unlock full access, including withdrawals. And if your details don't match your documents, correct them to your real legal name and date of birth before the verification check.

How to register at Betway Nigeria

  1. Go to the Betway Nigeria site and tap "Sign Up" in the top-right corner.
  2. Enter your Nigerian mobile number in the +234 field.
  3. Set a password of 8 to 10 characters and re-enter it in the Confirm Password field.
  4. Enter your date of birth and select your territory (state).
  5. Tick the box confirming you are 18+ and accept the Terms and Privacy Policy — the ₦1000 Free Bet coupon is shown in the form — then tap "Continue".
  6. Enter the one-time code on the OTP screen before its timer runs out. If it does not arrive, tap "Try Again" to resend.

Frequently asked questions

How long does the Betway password need to be?

8 to 10 characters, exactly as shown on the sign-up form in our 1 July 2026 test. Enter the same password again in the Confirm Password field to continue.

How does Betway verify my number?

With a one-time code entered on a timed screen. If it doesn't arrive before the countdown ends, tap "Try Again" to resend, and turn off Do Not Disturb so it can reach you.

Do I need my ID to register on Betway?

Not to sign up, but a government-issued ID is required for KYC before your first withdrawal, so prepare it early. The name on it must match your account and bank details.

Can I have more than one Betway account?

No. One account per person — Betway flags duplicates by phone number, device and personal details. If you already have an account, use Forgot Password to recover it instead of registering again.

Why are some Betway features locked after I registered?

Verification isn't complete. Upload your ID documents to finish KYC and unlock full access, including withdrawals. Registering is quick, but full access depends on passing that identity check.

Is Betway legal in Nigeria?

Yes. It's operated by Digi Bay Limited under Nigerian LSLGA and NLRC licensing, so it's a licensed operator you can register with legally.

18+ only. Betting should stay entertainment, never a way to solve money problems. Read our responsible gambling guide.
