Methodology

How We Review Betting Sites

Every site is tested against 12 Nigeria-specific criteria, scored, and re-checked every quarter.

The 12 criteria

Each site is scored from 1–10 against the following. The overall score is a weighted average — payments and licensing carry the most weight because they matter most to Nigerian players.

  1. Licensing & legal status — does the site hold a valid Nigerian state licence (or recognised offshore equivalent)?
  2. Security — encryption, KYC handling, payout reliability.
  3. Local payment methods — OPay, Paystack, PalmPay, Flutterwave, Kuda, bank transfer.
  4. Withdrawal speed — measured with a real account on each method.
  5. Mobile speed & experience — page weight, time-to-interactive on a mid-range Android.
  6. Sportsbook depth — markets, NPFL coverage, live betting, cash-out.
  7. Casino & live casino — game quality, providers, RTP transparency.
  8. Bonuses & promotions — value vs wagering vs eligibility.
  9. Customer support — Nigerian hours, response time, channels (WhatsApp counts).
  10. Responsible gambling tools — deposit limits, self-exclusion, time-outs.
  11. Reputation — community sentiment, complaint volume, our long-term experience.
  12. Value over time — do they keep paying out and treating winners fairly six months later?

How we test

For every site we review, we open a real account using a Nigerian phone number, deposit naira, place a representative spread of bets, and request a withdrawal. We document everything — screenshots, timestamps, support transcripts.

How often we update

Every review carries a "Last updated" date. We re-test the top 10 sites every quarter, and we re-check any site immediately if there's a major event — a licence change, a bonus shake-up, or a wave of player complaints.

Affiliate transparency

We earn commission on referrals. We disclose this in the footer of every page. No site can pay for a better score — not now, not ever. If a brand asks us to alter a review, we add it to a public "Pressure list" we publish every December.
